about

“Could I learn more from your state? Fill me in, I’ll compensate.” It’s been said that those seeking inspiration will go to the darkest and emptiest of rooms to find it – Out with a Name illustrates just that. This is a song about an aspiring screenwriter/director named Nick who began volunteering to sit in and assist at a psychiatric hospital, simply talking with “mild” to low-risk patients. He claimed that after suffering from a debilitating episode of writers block, one of his mentors suggested it would be therapeutic to get out of his head and do some good (for others and for his very own creative intentions). “A two-player ideal; send me out with a name.” As he made his weekly routine visits out to the hospital overlooking the San Fernando Valley, it was clear that a middle aged woman named Samantha was the right balance of life lessons, depth, child-like animation, and inspiration he was out to gain. “You hope to realize it’s a dream you’ll sell,” she would often tell him, knowing he was on his own personal journey to becoming the next Christopher Nolan. “A cold noise overshadows a new stain; one avoiding sunny calls for rain.” Nick always respected her honesty which lead to some very insightful discussions and completely cleared out his writers block over a period of 4 months. Samantha was the muse he associated with many of his independent feature films going forward and remains in her “one room estate” overlooking the valley in sunny Granada Hills, CA.

lyrics

On down to the emptiest of rooms
Finding disadvantage far too soon
You hope to realize it’s a dream you’ll sell

A cold noise overshadows a new stain
One avoiding sunny calls for rain
And now you realize it’s a dream you’ll sell
A rerun of despair leads you out nowhere

Could I learn more from your state
Fill me in I’ll compensate
How did I know sins your game
A two player ideal send me out with a name make me the same

An old line designated for a few
Can’t believe a window see us through
We’ve come to realize what a dream you’ll sell

Could I learn more from your state
Fill me in I’ll compensate
How did I know sins your game
Two play it almost the same
How will you know if I wait
As one room is your estate
I can have more sent your way
Two player ideal send me out with a name
